Will I Still Be Jewish If I Follow Jesus? – Jews for Jesus
I will be graduating from school in just a few weeks, and my prayer is not to be one who would find comfort in the things that soon must pass away, but rather experience joy each day in having all things In JESUS. Lord, may we not live a single day without You! I really appreciate how some of our lovely hymns have been given new tunes. My choir sang 'If I Gained the World' today at church.
The flavor was so enthusing and refreshing. I had my first degree in music.
I do compositions, record them on CDs and they've been very inspirational to the body of Christ. Can I pick some of your new tunes and record them at the studio to bless some souls? Will be ready for any terms and conditions.
Many thanks. This song really echoes song "My God, my Portion and my Love" in the hymnal. Let others grasp in ALL the shore, but just grant me the visits of Your grace, and I would desire no more. Sweet song that reminds me of the Lord's love and mercy : Lord we give You our whole being to love You! I had a recent experience that led me to this point I just consecrate my whole being, life, future, family, and even going on in Your recovery to You dear Lord for the preparation of Your Bride!!! He takes care of all our needs. I will not boast or brag but as I put the Lord first there is a huge blessing.
Only He can satisfy eternally. This hymn reminds me that I am not for this world with all of its vain pursuits and attractions. I've been caught and am constrained through the most lovely One!!! I love the old song version of "If I gained the world" but cannot find it anywhere.
Old or new, I don't like this new version which sounds nothing like the original. What's wrong with the old version that someone has to update it to some contemporary stuff. The old beauty was in the old song. Follow us:. Toggle Navigation. If I gained the world, but lost the Savior The music cannot be played on your browser.

Healy becomes the challenger, daring Jesus to respond. In the same way Healy has manipulated the gospel elements and ideas of Pascal, he expects to have some measure of power over Jesus. Moving into the second verse, Healy becomes annoyed and cynical about Jesus being an escape from pain, and begins to speak about him in terms of drug use.
This analogy resonates further with his use of Gospel elements; he uses them to manipulate and evoke feelings to induce the listener to a trance-like state. I do not, however, think the song is an outright rejection of Jesus. This is reflected in the conclusion of the song, which is less a rejection than a frustration of faith. The song ends with the repeated nine times! It is as though, in light of his resolve to be self-actualised, he is lost in the woods, trying to find his way with a compass that only points at himself.
In this state, he returns to the original reason for invoking negative transcendence: he needs an object outside himself to rescue him from the turmoil within.
Will I Still Be Jewish If I Follow Jesus?
Firstly, even within the profoundly secular industry of popular music, there is an openness to spirituality, religion, and Jesus. Secondly, songs written not only about Jesus, but to Him, create a unique discursive space. Finally, an invocation of negative transcendence may create an openness to a true spiritual experience. I find it interesting that with whatever agenda Healy begins his song— be it to contrive a spiritual experience through gospel music, or playfully mock a silent Jesus— he ends it in an attitude of openness, uncertainty, and searching.
Through invoking the imaginative presence of Jesus, the artist—and the listener—encounter a silence marked by expectation, that reshapes the very desires of those who invoke it. Perhaps in the silence of negative transcendence, the artists truly may encounter the divine. Philip Culbertson and Elaine M.
